PS_8th_CH6_Chemical Reactions

Your Study Guide is attached to the bottom of this page. You can download it to your computer and use it to take notes from during the chapter. You can print it out and hand write answers in or you can download it and type answers in. Study guide completion is a manditory assignment collected the day of the test.

Homework on Balancing Chemical Reactions

First Practice at: http://www.files.chem.vt.edu/RVGS/ACT/notes/scripts/bal_eq1.html

Then Balance Equation complete 3 on theme, and show all work:

C + O 2 => CO 2

C 3 H 8 + O 2 => CO 2 + H 2 O

Li + AlCl 3 => LiCl + Al

C 2 H 6 + O 2 => CO 2 + H 2 O

NH 4 OH + H 3 PO 4 => (NH 4 ) 3 PO 4 + H 2 O

Rb + P => Rb 3 P

CH 4 + O 2 => CO 2 + H 2 O

Al(OH) 3 + H 2 SO 4 => Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 + H 2 O

Na + Cl 2 => NaCl

Rb + S 8 => Rb 2 S

Exothermic vs. Endothermic Lab Requirements:
1) Labeled Graph
2) Observations
3) Balanced reaction using the reactants and products you used
4) Conclusions: a) What did you observe? b) Classify the type of reaction and explain why it is this type of reaction. c) What is happening to energy in this reaction? d) Why did you do so many trials, what improvements did you make, what would you different within your group next time.

2) Pricipate Lab http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hall/1410/lab-GS-34.html

Example Reaction with a formation of a Precipitate:
NH3 + AgNO3 --> Ag(NH3)2 + NO3

Classwork on Balancing Chemical Reactions :

1. BeF2 +  NaCl + --> NaF + BeCl2

2. FeCl3 + Be3(PO4)2 --> BeCl2 + FePO4

3. AgNO3 + LiOH --> AgOH + LiNO3

4. CH4 + O2 --> CO2 + H2O

5. Mg + Mn2O3 --> MgO + Mn

Homework WKST: Pick any 5 rewrite them on theme and show all work as you balence the equation you must make list of number of elements in reactants and products

   1. H2 + O2 => H2O
   2. H3PO4 + KOH => K3PO4 + H2O
   3. K + B2O3 => K2O + B
   4. HCl + NaOH => NaCl + H2O
   5. Na + NaNO3 => Na2O + N2
   6. C + S8 => CS2
   7. Na + O2 => Na2O2
   8. N2 + O2 => N2O5
   9. H3PO4 + Mg(OH)2 => Mg3(PO4)2 + H2O
  10. NaOH + H2CO3 => Na2CO3 + H2O
